To those of you who have to
take the final:
* Remember to show up for the final at 6 PM this
Wednesday (December 11).
* You know that you do have to take the final
if you did not receive an e-mail from me saying that you do not have to
take the
final. But if you are not sure, see me
or send me back an e-mail or call me.
* The best preparation for the final is to go
over the three mid-term exams of both this year and last year and make
sure you
know how to do them all and do not repeat the
same mistakes you made. The questions in the final will be very similar
to the
questions in those exams. If you need to
see me to get help, please try to schedule an appointment even though I
will be in my
office most of the time between 9:30AM-6PM.
To those of you who have a
term paper to turn in (Chem5560 students):
* If you sent me a draft and I have not given
it back to you yet with my comments, stop by and pick up the marked draft.
* In order to allow you to study well for the
finals, I am extending the deadline for turning in the final version of
the term paper
until this Friday (December 13) at 5 PM.
I want you to take the term paper very seriously and do well in it because
it counts
as a regular exam (15 points).
* Submission of the final draft is required to
be by e-mail at least for the text. It is desired but not required
to also turn in a
hard copy in addition to the required electronic
copy. If you have figures or other illustrations that you could not
include in the
electronic copy and are available only as a hard
copy, you need to turn in a hard copy in addition to the electronic copy
of the
text.

Final
Exam(exact date, time, and
place will be announced later)
|
Grading policy:
Grading depends on whether you are enrolled in CHEM4610 or CHEM5560:
CHEM 4610 students: There will be three mid-term exams (3 x 20=60 pts), and a final exam (40 pts). The final letter grade for the course will be based on the total points of the four exams. A term paper about a topic among a list chosen by the instructor will be optional for students who wish to substitute a grade in one of the mid-term exams.
CHEM 5560 students: There will be three mid-term
exams (3 x 15=45 pts), and a final exam (40 pts). A term paper about a
topic among a list chosen by the instructor will be mandatory and will
account for 15 points. The final letter grade for the course will
be based on the total points of the four exams.
Disability accommodations:
All reasonable accommodation will be made to facilitate special needs. However, it is the student's responsibility to make any special needs known to the instructor. It is recommended that students with special needs first meet with the staff of the Office of Disability Accommodation (ODA), Union 324, 565-4323, then meet with the instructor. For more information, see the ODA website.
